“bookmarks: ephesians”
Each of the 66 books that make up the Bible left a mark on the people, cultures, and countries who originally received them. Though centuries have passed since their original composition, these books are still leaving marks on those who read them today.
In this installment of our “Bookmarks” series, we turn to Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus. Written to a young community learning what it meant to follow Jesus in a divided world, Ephesians reminds us that the Church is more than a gathering of individuals. The church is a family adopted by God, united in Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Paul invites us to discover our deepest identity not in what we have achieved, but in what God has already declared to be true about us. From that identity flows a new way of living marked by unity, reconciliation, generosity, hospitality, and love. These are the marks Ephesians left on the early Church, and they are the marks God still longs to leave on us today.
