“bookmarks: amos”

Each of the 66 books that make up the Bible left a mark on the people, cultures, and countries that originally received them. Though centuries have passed since their original composition, these books are still leaving marks on those who read them today.

In this installment of our Bookmarks series, we turn to a shepherd and fig farmer turned prophet: Amos. Speaking into a time of wealth, worship, and widening injustice, Amos confronted a people who had grown comfortable while ignoring the cries of the poor and the call of God. His message challenged the power structures of his day, and it still challenges ours. In this teaching series, Amos calls our attention to injustice, challenges our comfort, and gives us hope on the other side of repentance. These are the marks he left on ancient Israel and the marks his prophecy still makes on us today.
